Mary B.’s 1965 family home was in need of a new exterior. The gray cedar shingle siding was original to the house and had suffered extensive woodpecker damage over the years. She maintained her home’s exterior by painting the cedar, but it was time for something new.
Researching options for her home independently, she sought out the perfect contractor for the job. She had a negative experience in the past where a previous contractor went on vacation, abandoning the job and leaving the crew to complete the work unsupervised. She was not pleased with her results, but the contractor offered no work guarantee. This time around, she was determined to find a contractor who wouldn’t let her down and stood behind their work!
Picking contractors recommended from the “Best List for Southwestern Suburbs,” she set off on her mission. She needed a contractor who was reliable and knowledgeable, and who would be thorough in the assessment of exactly what needed to be done. Pricing was important but fell secondary on her contractor “must-have” list. It was also important to her that she trusted the company she selected, that the staff was helpful and not pushy, and that she had access to a showroom in order to see product examples.
She selected three from the recommendation list. Having talked with two companies prior to Opal, she felt that they were competitively priced and sufficient in answering her questions, but they lacked in other areas. For example, they provided only swatches for her to view and gave her addresses of homes that she could look at; however, she was not impressed with any of the work that was done. She was frustrated as one started off uncomfortably pushy, and collectively, the two did not give her the confidence that either of them would do a good job with her home. Replacing the siding for her entire home was an enormous investment that she was willing to pay cash for, and she wanted to be 100% confident in her choice without being pressured. Luckily, she found Opal Exteriors.
Mary contacted Opal and was instantly impressed. She was greeted with a friendly and willing staff that is, in her terms, “much more laid back and not at all pushy.” Mary visited the Opal Showroom and worked with Ryan who gave her the confidence she was looking for in her contractor search. The showroom allowed her to see and feel the materials and wall examples firsthand, and picture how they would look. Ryan helped her to visualize by digitally generating renderings of her house with different looks. Compared to the swatches that the other companies handed her, the digital renderings were an especially attractive feature. She explained that the showroom was an enormous aid, emphasizing to her that Opal is indeed a professional company. She described the Opal staff as welcoming with a willingness to help in any way they could with absolutely no pressure. When Opal’s pricing came in competitive, she was sold.
Having made her decision, she selected James Hardie planks (6″ exposure) in Woodstock Brown with Artic White Trim, 3/8″ insulation, J&N Stone to front of her home in beautiful Ashlar Country, white aluminum soffit, and a white 4-lite bow window (Anderson 400-series). The crew worked meticulously on her home, taking care of her property and making certain to clean up after themselves daily. There were no hiccups in the process, and the job was finished within the expected parameters.
Mary explained that the crew’s performance was stellar. She noted that their expertise, craftsmanship, and meticulous hard work, along with their willingness to answer questions and explain the process in detail, all made them stand out. She especially admired their strong team camaraderie – she could tell that the crew clearly enjoyed their job and working together!
She also went on to express how much she appreciated the communication process from start to end – from sales, to the project manager, to the crew – and how accessible Opal was to her. She had numbers she could text or call in the event she needed to speak with someone. In fact, at one point, she had questions regarding the removal of old vents, and she was informed that the soffit vents would provide the necessary air circulation for her home. However, she felt that her house would look better without the large vents but was reassured of the decision to keep the vents after speaking to someone about her concern.
Mary states that she would absolutely recommend Opal Exteriors to her neighbors, friends, and family because of her great experience with Opal. She is thoroughly pleased with the final result, saying that her house looks brand new! Mary left a 5-star Google Review exclaiming:
“Opal Enterprises recently completed residing my home with Hardie board and beautiful stone trim. I couldn’t be more pleased with the job from start to finish. They are the best! My initial introduction to Opal was through my salesman, Ryan Anderson – he was terrific and the initial reason I selected Opal. Another huge plus in deciding between 3 highly rated companies was Opal’s large showroom and their knowledgeable friendly staff there. It gave me a chance to see all the materials first hand and that made a huge difference. It took me a while to decide on color and material – and everyone was so patient, never pushy. I changed my mind on color and style a few times and was accommodated every time by Ryan’s quick computer-generated renderings of my house in the configuration I wanted to see. As for the actual work, what a great experience!! Crews delivered excellent workmanship, were friendly, accommodating to questions and requests. They did a great job and were amazingly meticulous in cleaning up from start to finish. And, oh by the way, quotes I received from all 3 companies were very competitive! I made the right choice! I HIGHLY RECOMMEND OPAL!”
