What Are the Most Common Types of Damage for Siding, Decks, and Roofs?

Our five-year workmanship warranty only covers damage and defects that are a result of our installation and craftsmanship. Here are some common defects that would be covered:

  • Cracking or splitting of siding panels due to improper or poor installation techniques. The protection covers repairs if the siding materials crack or split as a result of our workmanship.
  • Leaking or water damage from defective deck or roof installation. If leaks develop or water causes damage to other home materials because our crew did not correctly install the decking or roofing components, it will be covered.
  • Peeling or flaking of exterior siding finishes within five years, provided the homeowner has followed proper maintenance. Defective workmanship applying the exterior paints or stains to siding would be our responsibility to refinish.
  • Rot or premature corrosion of decking boards as a result of inadequate flashing installation product that allows water to pool. The protection plan would pay to replace or repair deck boards that show rot, mold, or corrosion due to our work.
  • Loose, falling, or misaligned roof shingles caused by improper nailing patterns during installation. Any roofing materials that become loose, crack, fall off, or require re-alignment because of faulty installation techniques are covered.
  • Deterioration of deck railings, spindles, or support structures quicker than expected due to subpar assembly or joining methods. Structural deck component issues stemming from defective workmanship would be addressed.
  • Blistering, peeling paint, or stain on trim or fascia boards resulting from poor surface preparation prior to finishing. Warranty repairs encompass refinishing trims if coating deficiencies relate to our crew’s work quality.

What Is Excluded from the Five-Year Workmanship Warranty?

Despite the coverage of the warranty, there are some situations where damage is not covered. You must know this so you can get the most out of your products and the warranty. Our warranty does not cover products in the following situations:

Neglect of the Product

If you fail to properly maintain your siding, deck, or roofing according to the manufacturer’s specifications, it will void the warranty. This includes neglecting to clean debris or not addressing damage in a timely manner. Significant dirt or grime buildup that leads to deterioration won’t be covered.

Misuse of Siding, Decks, and Roofing

Using your siding, decking, or roofing components in ways they weren’t designed for eliminates warranty protection. Examples include excessive foot traffic on decks or placing storage containers on roofs. The products must only be utilized as residential siding, decking, or roofing materials.

Abuse of Products

Purposeful damage or disregard for the structural integrity and quality of siding, decking, or roofing will make any repairs or replacements due to abuse ineligible. This encompasses things like improper material storage practices, severe weather events beyond design tolerances, or unauthorized product alterations.

Repair or Alterations from Other Parties than Opal Enterprises

Only repairs or work done directly by Opal Enterprises technicians will be covered under the warranty. Should you arrange for other contractors to do work that affects the siding, decking, or roofing after installation, resulting issues or damage wouldn’t be covered. All post-installation modifications require express approval.

Movement of Products Due to Attached Materials

The warranty doesn’t apply to problems caused by materials like sheathing or framing that the siding, decking, or roofing components are attached to. If structural settling or other substrate issues distort or compromise the products, they would not be covered as they are outside of our direct control.

Damage from Incorrect Structure Design

Faulty architectural or engineering designs that inadequately support siding, decking, or roofing loads can cause failure. Resulting damage due to structural defects is excluded, as we rely on building professionals to ensure proper design specifications are followed.

Acts of God

Natural disasters like hurricanes, tornadoes, earthquakes, or fires fall outside of typical product performance expectations. Repairs for damage caused by severe weather events like wind damage or other natural Acts of God aren’t covered. You’ll need separate homeowners insurance for these circumstances.

Lack of Proper Maintenance

Following the manufacturer’s cleaning and upkeep requirements is necessary to maintain warranty eligibility. Neglecting basic periodic maintenance, like inspecting for loose or damaged components, relinquishes coverage for resulting issues found. Proper long-term maintenance is important.
